Mining Equipment Manufacturing & Machining Services.
Heavy-component machining, fabrication, and assembly for the mining, milling, and tunneling industries, engineered to survive the most abrasive environments on Earth.
Download BrochureMining equipment takes punishment that would destroy ordinary hardware. Since 1965, Norwest Precision Ltd. has been a trusted supplier to original equipment manufacturers that build machinery for the mining, milling, and tunneling industries. We manufacture, machine, fabricate, and assemble the heavy, high-wear components that operate under constant load, shock, and abrasion, from crusher shafts and mineral sizers to hoist drums and rope shovel components. Our team of 300 experts delivers the durability and dimensional accuracy these applications demand.
From our 100,000 sq. ft. facility, backed by 160,000 lbs. of lifting capacity, 25 ft. of under-hook clearance, and some of North America's largest CNC floor-boring mills, we machine oversized shafts, gears, and structural components from high-strength alloys and abrasion-resistant steels. From single-source machining and gear cutting to fabrication, finishing, assembly, and full inspection, Norwest delivers precise execution, material traceability, and ISO 9001:2015 quality to keep your equipment in service and your operation moving. As part of New Era Group, we can also draw on 350,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space across 7 plants for large or multi-part programs.
We manufacture, machine, and assemble a wide range of components for the mining, milling, and tunnelling sector, including:
Case Study
Precision Machining & Turnkey Assembly of an 80,000 lbs Mine Hoist Shaft.
THE CHALLENGE
Our client needed to manufacture a safety-critical mine hoist shaft measuring 40 feet in length and weighing 80,000 lbs. The primary challenge was maintaining micron-level tolerances across such a massive component, especially on the bearing journals, where precision is vital to operational safety. Managing material sourcing, heavy machining, precision grinding, and final assembly without splitting work across multiple vendors created a highly complex mandate with zero margin for error.
THE NORWEST SOLUTION
Norwest Precision managed the entire scope under one roof as a single point of accountability. By performing turning, milling, and precision grinding on a single horizontal lathe without removing the component, our team eliminated cumulative setup errors and handling risks. We completed the bearing assembly in-house, applied protective crating, and provided secure on-site storage to accommodate the client's field deployment schedule.
RESULTS
We delivered the shaft as a fully integrated, zero-defect assembly that met all dimensional, mechanical, and performance tolerances required by both the OEM and the mine operator. By consolidating the entire project under a single point of accountability, Norwest Precision eliminated site-fit risks and field delays, delivering an uncompromised, mission-critical asset ready for immediate deployment.
